The 365 - 11/5/17 Day 105

Happy Sunday everyone - Seeing these dumpsters in Art Alley in Rapid City convinced me that we have such a missed opportunity by not decorating them.  Everything in the alley is covered in graffiti and murals, even the dumpsters.  The end result is something that I actually want to look at even though they are hidden behind the buildings.  Next step, figure out how to not make them smell.  But one step at a time - Enjoy your Sunday -

Happy Belated Saturday - In continuing with the post from yesterday, I thought I would share the other image I made from the Berlin Airlift memorial in Rapid City.  This image is of one of the tank traps that was used near the Berlin Wall during the 1960's.  In fitting with my metal series, I used the B&W approach to highlight the texture in the metal.  The grit in the metal symbolized its purpose.  This was not a contraption made for form, but rather for function.  It's rough appearance was a product of rapid necessity it needed to be deployed.  This image focuses on that.  Enjoy your Saturday -

Happy Belated Weekend everyone - This is one of those images where the viewer would never guess what the subject actually is.  For me, I enjoy this image even more so because I know the source, but also because of the unexpected nature in which I found it.  Wandering around Rapid City,  I stumbled across a memorial for the Berlin Airlift, including tank traps and a piece of the actual Berlin Wall.  The portion of the wall had been gifted to the city in appreciation for the contribution of airmen stationed there in support of the airlift operation bringing supplies to Berlin during the days of the wall.  The large concrete slab wasn't an interesting subject in whole, so I focused on this very small steel connector (I think) that was sticking out.  I used a pinhole editing approach here to highlight both the metal and some of the texture of the concrete while allowing the edges to go dark.  I thought it was appropriate considering the time period in which this particular subject was conceived.  Enjoy your Friday -

Happy Belated Thursday - One of the most rewarding parts of urban photography is finding something where you least expect.  It's even more gratifying to find something you enjoy viewing in a place where people walk by all of the time without noticing.  I took this image on a photo walk in my old neighborhood of Red Hook.  At the time, I was captivated by urban scenes and was actively looking for subjects among the industrial buildings.  With this image, I tried to focus on symmetry and shape more than the actual object.  It's a conflict of shapes (rectangles and circles) more than a wheel.  Enjoy your Thursday -

Happy Belated Wednesday - After a long day entertaining tourists and kids on the zocola of Oaxaca City, this particular clown needed to take a breather.  He sat down on the bench, took off his nose, and took a moment to rest.  It was a bit funny to see the "other side" of life as a clown.  Sometimes the fun and games is actually hard work. Enjoy your Wednesday -
